McCaig’s Tower is a prominent landmark. Great to walk up to and see the views and history behind it.
Kilchurn Castle
Just a 35 minute drive from Oban, located outside the village of Loch Awe, Kilchurn Castle was built in the mid-1400s, and it remained the base of the mighty Campbells of Glenorchy for 150 years. After the first Jacobite Rising of 1689, Kilchurn was converted into a garrison stronghold, but was abandoned by the end of the 1700s.
Dunstaffnage Castle & Chapel
Dunstaffnage Castle, one of the oldest stone castles in Scotland, is situated near the village of Dunbeg just 3.5 miles from Oban.

Chocolate Factory
Oban Chocolates are made entirely by hand by our crack team of chocolatiers. The shop and cafe are open plan and you can see the chocolatiers at work through a viewing window into the factory and interpretive panels help to explain the processes.

Beaches
Ganavan Beach, Oban
Ganavan Sands is located north of Oban in Argyll & The Isles.
Tralee Beach, Benderloch
Tralee Beach is just a 15 minute drive from Oban, situated in the village of Benderloch. Stretching to around 2.31km long, this sheltered beach, with shallow sea shelf is perfect for families, pets and paddle boarders. There is car parking in the village of Benderloch where you can walk the sort path that is signposted, this is situated just next to Ben Lora Cafe. There is an alternative carpark at the west end of the beach off the South Shian Road.
Walks
Beinn Lora
Beinn Lora is loacted in the village of Benderloch, standing at 308 metres high, its fine position ensures panoramic views of the surroudning munros, ocean and land. The approach uses waymarked forestry walks (most of the conifers have now been felled) and the car park is loacted just next the The Pink shop.
Sutherlands Grove Walk
Sutherlands Grove can be found near Barcaldine Village. Marvel at the mighty fir trees of Sutherland’s Grove, the oldest of which were planted in 1870, with more added in 1921 to commemorate Lord John Donald Sutherland, one of the founders of the Forestry Commission. Some tower 53 metres (174 feet) high. As you push deeper into this vast forest, you will find more ancient oaks and Scots pines. The trails follow the gorge of the Abhainn Teithilburn, whose curiously-sculpted rocks create entrancing waterfalls.
Fearnoch
Fearnoch is a forestry walk located approx 3 miles outside of Taynuilt.
The woodlands here are alive with wildlife as the trail passes through the towering trees that flourish around the River Luachragan.
Look out for red squirrels leaping through the forest canopy. You will certainly encounter the great, domed nests of the Scottish wood ant amid the trees. Constructed from pine needles, these can tower 1.5 metres (5 feet) high and shelter networks of tunnels and chambers, each one home to up to 100,000 ants. The insects work tirelessly to keep the mounds in order, even ensuring individual needles lie in the right direction.
Glencruitten Forest Walk
Just 2 miles east from Oban, following Glencruitten Road, you will find Glencruitten House Woods.
Turning into the estate grounds, take the turn straight left at the cross roads, where you'll find a car park after 50 meters on your right.
There are plenty of routes to take in this area, but the described one takes you across the estate through a variety of mature forest areas and some newly planted forest fields.
